My Thoughts on WrestleMaina 22
March 28, 2008 – 1:34 pmAlright first off if you have not seen Wrestlemania 22, then stop reading now. There are spoilers here, so just so you know. Now then on the the big event Wrestlemania 22. First thing I must say, is like classic Wrestlemania, this one had some good moments, personally it wasn’t what I see as Wrestlemania but more of just another event. Over the years it seems that Wrestlemania goes more and more down hill in the match ups and who they have in the matches. This Wrestlemania was a bit better then last years, but I have some issues with the way it was played out. First the had the main event the 3rd to last match. All I can say to that is what the hell?? Following a really stupid match, which should never had happen in a Wrestlemania. Follow by the main event which should have been the second match.
World Tag Team Champions Kane & Big Show vs. Chris Masters & Carlito
All I have to say about this match is that it was nothing more then a repeat of the first match. Same result, Big Show and Kane are in control most of the match, follow by a short come back from Masters and Carlito, ending up with Masters and/or Carlito making a mistake giving Show and Kane the win. Same thing, really a bad way to open up Wrestlemania 22, but not the worst match of the night, by far.
Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Rob Van Dam vs Shelton Benjamin vs Ric Flair vs Finlay vs Lashley vs Matt Hardy
I don’t know about you, but I was going for Ric Flair, and at times you would almost believe that he would have won this match and he almost did, but not before you though he was done for, early in the match Flair made it to the top of the ladder only to be super-pluex off by Hardy. After that, we all though Flair was hurt bad, as he was jumping a round holding his knee. They took Flair out, so any hope of him winning was gone. At this point Benjamin had the next best show, everyone in this match other then Lashley had a shot at the win. Lashley really sucked in this match, he could have won the match twice but for some reason he was “afraid” to climb the ladder which cost him. The match was very good, I wouldn’t say as good as last years match but overall I rank the match #3 best match at this years Wrestlemania.
Near the end of the match, Flair came back in and start to clean house which gave everyone hope, even calming the ladder and touching the suite case, but that’s to Finlay it didn’t happen. In the end it was RVD who picked up with win after pushing Hardy and Benjamin over to the top rope and outside.
Edge vs. Mick Foley (Hardcore Match)
WOW, this was the second best match at Wrestlemania. Thinking back to some of Foley’s old matches from a few years ago, you wouldn’t feel all to good about this match. Both of them are not very good, Edge is younger and stronger then Foley, while Foley is well past his time if you say. However being with what they had to work with they pulled it off and it was very cool to see that the match came out the way it did. Even with Edge winning the match, but it was well worth it. Sadly I wouldn’t say that Foley had his Wrestlemania moment, but still a good way to get Wrestlemania going in the right track again. But it doesn’t last long.
United States Champion Chris Benoit vs. JBL
What can I say about this match? If you watch last years Wrestlemania 21 match with JBL vs Cena, then you can skip this one because its worst. I can’t believe the match even went on. Neither of them had any build up to this match other then Benoit breaking JBL’s hand which I don’t even think was really broken. JBL has been going more and more down hill and having him as the United States Champion sucks and I hope that Benoit wins it back quick.
Women’s Champion Trish Stratus vs. Mickie James
I have to say the fourth best match, better then I though. In past Wrestlemania’s this type of match as been a opener match if you will. But this was happen very late in the program and turn out to be dam good. The best women’s match in ages. It was here we really got an idea on how the rest of the night was going to go and again if you know how the WWE works, you knew Mickie James was going to win. Why? Everyone in the arena was cheering for her. Mainly I think it many are just sick of looking at Trish. I years past I though Trish was hot, she still is hot, but I think as myself and millions of other fans think Mickie James is hotter and lie her better and to the reason she won the match. Well not really as she totally kicked Trish’s ass the whole match. Either way one of the best women’s matches I’ve seen in a good long while.
Boogeyman vs. Booker T & Sharmell
For those who read my comments about this match in the Wrestlemania 22 thread on the board will know that I was 100% right on this match. It sucked and not even worth being a Wrestlemania match. This is another example of WWE being stupid and putting a match together that had no business being together in the first place, both Boogeyman and Booker T did a crap job in this match. I’m not going to waste anymore time on this match.
Mr. McMahon vs. Shawn Michaels (No Holds Barred Match)
I wont lie to you, I’m not a 100% fan of HBK, but once again he stole the show as this match was the best match and well worth being done at Wrestlemania 22. I can’t even tell you about this match, you have to see if for yourself. Many people though this match would end up being just another repeat of the Hogan/McMahon match a few years back. This match blew it away and then some. Thanks to HBK for giving it his all and stepping it up to give us a good show. So all I can really say is that thanks for making Wrestlemania 22 worth the watch.
Undertaker vs. Mark Henry (Casket Match)
Thank god Undertaker won, really this match should have never had happen. And if you know anything about the WWE you will know just from watching this match that Undertaker was force to do the match. You can only tell, the way he wrestle was below what he normally gives. As I say Henry sucks and putting him in such a match in Wrestlemania again Undertaker is really just a slap in the face. Rumors I heard that Taker was going to lose this match. I guess WWE pull their thumb from up in their ass and gave Taker the win.
World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton vs. Rey Mysterio
First off this was the third last match, why? Thought that who ever won the Royal Rumble was in the main event? Even know Rey lost to Orton his shot, and then was put back into the match, he still won the Rumble. This match was overall good. Out of two big title matches this one was the best. I think Angle should have won the match, as he was kicking but the whole time and even made both Rey and Orton tab out but the referee didn’t see either of them. In the end it was Rey who pin Orton. I am very happy that Rey won, but really not the way he did. It’s clear the only reason Rey won the match was to give respect to Eddie Guerrero, if it wasn’t for that Angle had this match won. I see Angle winning the title back very soon.
Torrie Wilson vs. Candice Michelle (Playboy Pillow Fight)
OK, we all know both of them are very, very hot. I’m sure just about every WWE fan as seen them both nude from playboy by now. However why was this match at Wrestlemania, why was it the second to last match, and why was it called a Pillow Fight when either of them pick up a pillow once? Really pointless match to have, other then just nothing more then eye candy for the male fans.
WWE Champion John Cena vs. Triple H
The match everyone was really hoping for. While this match was 100% better then last years match with Cena vs JBL and HHH vs The Animal. This years match was a bit off if you would say. First off they both had stupid entrances that where like… what was that? Really off key for both of them, while Triple Ages “King of Kings” was better suited for him then Cena’s Gangster one. Overall the match was good. The crowd really needed to shut up in this match as most of the time if not at least 50% of the time I was trying to figure out what they where saying then what was going on in the match. A combo of “Lets go Cena”, “Cena Suck”, “Let go Game”, “Triple H Sucks” follow by Bo’s was driving me crazy. This crowded really hated Cena, no matter what he did they boo him any time he was in control. Personally neither of them where really on their game from what they have seen from them both in the past.
Not really worth it, but I say that maybe Cena will become a heel now, being how everyone boo the hell out of him (more the normal) even after he made Triple H tap out to the STFU which may I add looked like it was force on. Why I don’t know. Again just setting up the Backlash rematch.
Overall having three will done matches was worth watching Wrestlemania 22, however I’m still anger on how WWE has been with Wrestlemania in the last few years. It had some good moment and some bad moments. Even with so many overall bad matches, I think if anyone can agree (who saw it) that the Mr. McMahon vs. Shawn Michaels made it all worth it just as last years HBK vs Angel match was.
