Spiderman 3 (2007)

May 4, 2007 – 1:24 pm

Well the time to put up or shut up is here, and the big bad Spiderman is back after a long 3 years wait. The biggest question most fans have on their mind was would Spiderman 3 find itself in the same boat as X-Men 3 The Last Stand. Well I can tell you on the level of the movie itself Spiderman 3 is way better then X3 was or could have every been. The sad truth about it is many fans, will come out of the theaters with a little bit of disappointment in their hearts. Spiderman 3 starts Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, James Franco, James Cromwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Dylan Baker, Rosemary Harris and J.K. Simmons.

We find Spiderman where we basically left him off at the end of the 2nd film, the difference is some time has past, if I dare say a few years as now the people of New York Love him. Everything seems to be going well for Peter has he gets ready to ask MJ to marry him but that’s were it all goes down hill for him. Out of no where in the sky comes crashing a meteor which lands near Peter and MJ. Out of this rock comes a nasty looking little black creature that makes its way on to Peters bike as hes taking MJ home. Along the way you run into and see the birth of Sandman, some short fights early on with Harry, Sandman and even the battle between his personal life which seems to have take a wrong turn. Peter finds himself at a crossroad when he discovers that the man who he thought killed his Uncle Ben may not have been the gun man. So this sends Peter down a dark path which leaves him open for the little black guy to make his way onto him while he sleeps.

Okay, well I’m not going to spoil the movie for anyone as I think the only way I can put this is to tell you to go see it. Many people are going to say this is the worst of the series, the film was overloaded and due to this overload of so many sub-plots the movie almost got lost but does find a way to bring it together at the end. Many fans will say that this movie is far less closer to the comics then the other two which both where hail to being the best comic book movies due to them being very close to the source.

I plan on seeing it again at least once more. Which does make me sad inside that I rather only see it once more while the first two I saw multi times over the months until it had left theaters. I’m not saying Spiderman 3 was crap, it wasn’t a classic or even what you may think. It was good, the story was well play out and the action it had was also well played out so the film in my own opinion was great. I loved the battles with Venom and Spiderman. I thought for what they try to do, they did it will, it made perfect sense to me and it lead up to the big ending. Some of it was a shocker some of it was a given. The Bruce Campbell part was funny as hell and just as you would open for his part as well as the Stan Lee part, which was just as good if not more of a wow factor then some parts of the movie.

Now let me tell you what sucked about the movie, most of this is not at the movie itself but the people who went and sad the film. I tell you at midnight showing the crazy people come out. First off it was really hard to watch at time, because these people who where seating close to 3-4 seats down from where I was kept getting up every 20 or so minutes. At about 30 or so minutes into the film they got up. I thought to myself “Oh shit are they leaving?” Only to come back a few moments later. Then just one of them leave which for the most part went on most of the movie.

The next problem was the people did go nuts on parts and rightfully so, many of them where annoying and at least for me ruin the film for me. There is one part of the film deep into the 2nd act of the film where lot of people where yelling things out I thought was uncalled for. Such things as “You slut” and “Whore” long with other things I will not post up.

There is lot of crying going on, most of the main cast has at least one part of crying. If you seen it or when you do, you’ll understand because there are some powerful moments which result in one or two characters totally breaking down into tears. The effects of these scenes where lost to me, because there was a large number of jackasses who start laughing at it. Even learn the end when Peter slaps someone while hes deep in the control of the Black Suit, people laughed at it. I on the other hand over going “I can’t believe” that to looking over the theater thinking “WTF is wrong with you people?”.

This last issue comes not so much from people there but after words and from lot of Internet stupidness I read. Everyone for the most part missed the dark side of Peter when the suit takes control of him They didn’t got to much into that part of the story which I think may have cause the out pour of stupidness I hear. What is with everyone saying Spiderman went “EMO”? First off on a personally note, the word emo is stupid, and I could careless for it Just because Peter start to wait all black, was trying to act like a bad ass would make lot of smart ass comments to people and even had his hair come down over his eyes a bit and now hes emo. No, those people who called him emo are stupid. Nuff said.

Overall it didn’t effect the movie for me, I could have done with out all the annoying people there. One of my biggest worries was there being 3 major villains, I didn’t want it to come out looking bad and for the most part it didn’t, however all of them where underdeveloped. You could pull Harry out of that due to him being in the first 2 and the overall build up of him becoming the next Green Goblin. Brock on the other hand had lot of small scenes and like Sandman was not developed very well story wise. Lot of unanswered questions are floating over them and never get answer at the end.

Now let me move on to Venom for a moment here. I think for what they did and how they did it, it couldn’t have been done any better. The rumors of him being in it only a short time is true, but its a sweet one. Every shot he show up for the people where just “Oh my god, that was kick ass” kind of feel to it. Which is the feel I thought I would have gotten the whole movie. While the acton was good, the CGI was top of its class and the lines where perfect and funny and messed up at the same time, there was some stuff I didn’t like or wish I had gotten. Venom’s voice sounded just like Topher Grace. I was hoping more for a Ghost Rider kind of deal with Venom’s voice when he was in full suit.

Venom never once said “We” to Paker. Which for me I thought was one of the things that made Venom characters that he always called himself “we”, I know not a big deal. It didn’t effect the movie for me. What did however is not once did they say “Venom” Spiderman only called him “Brock” never Venom. He wasn’t the only character to not get his name said. It all came down to the acton and there was lot of it, but it missed lot of story plot from the comics that went unused. I was hoping that Brock/Venom would attack Spiderman as Paker, like showing up places and basically freaking Peter out. That didn’t happen, as soon as he became Venom he went right after Marry Jane and the big showdown begins. Listing to the crowed and reading lot of reviews, most people went into this movie to see Venom and him only and many will be pissed he wasn’t given the screen time he should have gotten, but at least it wasn’t a waste for the time he got.

Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy was great, very sexy and perfectly created from the comics to the big screen, while she didn’t have a large role in the film, she had some key parts which caused lot of issues with Marry Jane and Peter which results in some other issues that lead him down the dark path and even helps in creating Venom. J.K. Simmons has always was funny has hell and really did the character good for all 3 films.

Finally I just like to note that while Spiderman 3 isn’t as good as the others, its not the blow you out of theater film everyone was hoping for, it does do lot of things right and the bad can be easy overlooked. If you went to a midnight showing like I did I hope you had a better group then I did because they where annoying and at times down right rud. I will see it again this weekend and maybe again the next following week. I will leave you with that, Not much more I can say with out giving too much away. Just go and see the movie. If you like the first two films I see no reason why you can’t enjoy this one. It has lot of laughs, great action, doesn’t get over played and Venom looked so good, and no Venom is not dead like some of you think. If you saw the film, you’ll now what I mean, after all you can’t kill Venom
