Reno 911!: Miami (2007)

Okay I first have to come right out and say I’m not a real big fan of the TV show, if I see it on and have nothing better to watch I’ll watch it. To the point it’s not on my top 10 must watch TV shows if you know what I mean. That doesn’t mean I dislike it, oh no not at all. In fact I find the idea of the show very good and a good way to get away from things and just take some laughs in. Well that’s what Reno 911!: Miami is. It’s 90 minutes of pure joke after joke. If you’ve seen the TV show, then you will pick right up on lot of the jokes and well enjoy it.

Let start off with the basics as this will be a short review. The movie stars Thomas Lennon, Ben Garant, Mary Birdsong, Cedric Yarbrough, Kerri Kenney, Wendi McLendon-Covey. Your main cast being followed around by a camera crew. Now as the story begins we find out crew doing what they do best, messing up in big ways but no one really gets hurt and it’s just funny and stupid. Normally when you think about a movie like this, your first choice is, “Well this can’t be any worst then maybe 4 episodes run together into one long story.” Which for the most part it is, however because of this we have loads and loads of down time. In fact the real plot of story while it appears to start early really doesn’t take shape until almost near end.

This is not a bad thing, because up until that point you have no idea and for the most part just think its something so crazy and stupid that it’s funny. Now I must warn that this is a rated R movie which means there are a few things in here I wouldn’t take the kids, there are some nice boob shots for the men and I guess some men stuff too for the ladies. All and all we get a fun ride of jokes that can only be done Reno 911 style.

The biggest shock in this movie was a special cameo appearance by The Rock, yes I mean The Rock, the guy who is smelling all that the Rock is Cooking Rock. He at best is only on screen for about less then 5 minutes, but as you can guess it’s classic Rock doing what Rock does. It’s good to know that the Rock has good taste and more or less the only reason I see him being in this movie is that like many who go out to watch this movie are fans. There are a few other cameo roles threw out the movie as well, some longer then others.

Unlike many reviews I write here, I can’t really give you many details about the movie. Basically our crew of idiot cops head out to Florida, Miami for a police convention only to find out they can’t get in. As you can guess they are called into duty due to every cop there being trapped in side the convention building due to some terrorists poison. So now it’s up to Reno’s gang to keep the peace on South Beach and the rest of the City. I’ll leave it at that as far as the plot goes.

All I have left to say about this movie is go and see it. It’s not going to pull in any big bucks, it wont win any awards or anything. Once you see it, which I highly recommend. you’ll be waiting for the DVD release which I’m sure will be pack with good features, outtakes and maybe even bloopers. Some may say I’m crazy for giving Reno 911: Miami a 4 out of 5 stars, but hey its one of those movies you just need to sit back, turn off your brain and just kick back and laugh. While it was a bit dull at times, at the end you really want know what just happen but what you will remember is you had a good time. And really at the end of the day isn’t that the quest of any movie anyways?
