The Punisher (2004)

Starting Tom Jane and John Travolta is the marvel super hero hits the big screen in the Punisher. Now I loved this movie. There was very little in this movie I didn’t like. One of the problems I had was I have no clue if the movie was right on with the comic. I wasn’t really a big punisher fan growing up and still not. But I know a good movie when I see one. With you look at the first punisher moive from the 80s (you know then) then you know what I mean. For you who don’t know Frank Castle is a FBI agent who family where all killed because he was doing one last drug bust which goes bad when one of millionaire businessman/bad guy Howard Saint’s sons winds up dead. So the stage is set and he has no super powers just his intelligence and his years of combat experience.

Frank Castle is was fomer FBI agent who family was killed by the Saint because they belived him to be the one that killed Mr. Saints youngest boy. Filled with rage, after healing from near death, Castle goes on a mission to stop all those who do evil. Become a the punisher was not easy and unlike most super hero’s he has no powers. A very unlikly super hero.

Well the movie start right from the get go. The drug bust is the first thing that happens and its done very well. Not much is total about the drug bust or some of key people that are in the punisher series. Like all movies that are base of Marvel Comics this one too has been changed. What really hurt this movie was its rated R rating. Most fans of this series are I say under the age of 17 so getting to see the film was hard. While most places wont let you even buy the movie now unless you have a ID. So the movie had little support going in.

The moive had a few good sences that I enjoyed but it could have been more action then there was. One thing I like is when they have them in their super hero outfits. Why? Because it looks out right cool. Most of the time you see Castle in a white T-shirt. But when he wears the Shull shirt it rocks. I think John Travolta did a good job as Mr. Saint in this movie. I really belived what he had to say on screen which well the story movie along.

The film did a good job telling the story of how he became the punisher. From the get go you knew something was going down and you wanted to see more (If your into that type of thing). The fight when hit men was sweet too. And in these sences you can see how much Castle cares for his wife and son. Hes a fighter man and Tom Jane did a dam good job showing it. Some people can call me crazy here but hes a dam good actor when he wants too.

Not to much of that here other then your basic hollywood tricks no CGI or anything like that found in this movie. There may have been but there was nothing that I saw where CGI was needed. As for the rest of the stunts and other things they did was just great. The best part was the end with all the cars blowing up and after the last car blew up a high shot of the sence show that it was a shull.

I think they did a good job overall with this movie. However for me the punisher isn’t someone that I look at as a cool super hero. I mean hes almost like a batman rip off for a sec if you stop and look at it. They both lost their families, they both fight crime, they both have no powers. But batman is cool sorry Punisher.

There was some side story going on in the movie that I either just missed or it was just me. But how did they find out where he lived at the time? Plus where did he get all the weapons he had? Things like this bothered me but not to much where I would dislike the moive. As for how this movie did. Well not so good as it was rated R, the story is a bit hard to follow if your not watching it and there wasn’t as much action as I wanted to see. I for one hope they do a 2nd one so I can see more of the character.
