Dragonball Z: Broly Second Coming

Finally the next movie for Dragon Ball Z has been releases for fans to enjoy. However its not what all fans have been wanting. First off this is by far one of the worst DBZ movies ever. I still wonder why FUNimation even releases, as for the longest time I thought they where going to skip it. In either case the movie has been releases. If you don’t know, in the first broly movie we think he dies on the planet has it blew up. However as we see in this one, he’s live and made his way to Earth. Only this time, Goku is dead so Earth has to fight Broly with out Goku. Or will they? Read on.

Well not much to tell you as for movie go this has a very short script. Not to much go. Unlike most of DragonBall Z where there is a lot of talking. The same voices as all the movies are here for the voices. However we are missing some, well many people unlike the last few movies. This one we don’t get to hear or even see Vegeta. Also Piccolo, and a few other characters that we have see like Master Roshi, Oolong and even Chi-Chi and Bulma are totally missing this this movie. The case is short. Only Gohan, Videl, Goten, Trunks, Krillin, Broly, Goku and a few people for voices for the villagers in the near by town. Not to much of a cast and if you ask me, replacing Piccolo and Vegeta for Goten and Trunks is weak. As forget that Future Trunks has been in the last few films so a simple replace of him with his younger self, but this was not the case. Also the to replace Bulma and Chi-Chi with Videl was totally weak and has little for the story itself. After watching both the Japanese and english version little in base dubbing has changed. Just your normal changes you see in ever dub version.

I can’t really down great this as the animation was just cool and see all that you know and love of DBZ is here. For once we get to see Broly fight for a while with out becoming Ultimate Super Saiyan 3 (aka Legendary Super Saiyan). I will have to say that they got a little lazy on this one. In the scene Broly changing into Legendary, the scene looks just like the one from the first Broly film. In fact I would not be shock to learn its the same cels from that one. As it just looked out of place to me as it was old footage or something. Other then that, I find nothing wrong with the style and overall look of the animation. I would like to point out that the end credits are very weak with it using old footage from the first Broly film. Which again shows how lazy this project was.

Well where to I begin. First off the main cast of Goten, Trunks and Videl for the first 20mins of the movie is weak. The whole story on why they where looking for the Dragonball’s was also a weak start. Which again totally shows how this story was throw together for money reasons. Many people may not agree, but Broly is the top bad guy in the DBZ movie universe, so getting a 2nd movie out was only to make money off of it and not to give us a great story like the first few DBZ movies where. If you did not, the movies where release almost 2 a year so after the Cooler movie things really go down hill story wise. Totally cutting Vegeta out of the story was a stupid move on the writers part. Piccolo being in it for a sec and then just disappearing (as in fact he really wasn’t in it either as it was Krillin and Gohan only thought it was Piccolo as Krillin had on Piccolos cloths on) The fact that Goten and Trunks could fight Broly and not get killed with in the first 10 min’s is beyond me. Even if Broly was still hurt from his last fight with Goku. He had 7 years to heal. From the movie kicks off with Broly getting off the planet in a saiyan space pod, making his way to Earth (Maybe a year to travel) and then crashing on Earth only to be froze for 7 some years only to be woke up by Goten’s crying (Broly things its Goku). Also the Dragonball’s acting on their own and then disappearing as they do with out the Dragon being summoned was well out of place. By far the story weak and even the final attack on Broly from Goten, Goku and Gohan looked like a remake of Gohan’s and Cell classic blast from Cell Saga.

Poor, I will not lie to you. I am a big time Dragon Ball Z fan. For me this movie is something that was very hard to watch. Poor story, poor main cast and lack of support from support characters. Missing of main characters like Piccolo and Vegeta and even Goku as is the 2nd movie Goku is missing in. However he still had a role in the Bojack movie, and here he’s missing until the every end. I am for real when I say I can’t watch this movie as the fight is well mostly Goten and Trunks fighting Broly, some of Videl (please, Broly puncher and she gets right up. Really, it should have killed her) And then Gohan coming out the blue to save the day only to his ass totally kicked thru out the whole thing. Krillin showing up and then being out of it was weak.

Fans really hate this movie. Its bad, many people don’t like Broly or think he’s a weak character. I for one think he’s a cool character. However it again falling into that whole reasons for his making. If you don’t know by now. The only reason Broly was created in the first place was to clear up the whole “legendary super saiyan thing” reason was there was only to be one, yet we have just about ever saiyan after Goku and Vegeta becoming Super Saiyans. Again a mistake on their part. However he was still a cool character. Its really to back he was but into weak stories which make him come off as a stupid character.

Overall my thoughts on this movie are if your a hardcore fan, meaning you own all the dub FUNimation VHS and/or DVD’s and your waiting for the Ultimate Uncut version coming out then chances are you will pick this up. If DBZ is something you just watch on TV, you have some collectibles and may own a few videos. I would skip it then as it will be a waste of $20 bucks. FUNimation did a really poor job on Dubbing this film. The opening theme song, well doesn’t even match the scene on the screen. Music thru out all of the movie was poor and FUNimation really needs to wake up and release that you can not use Rap and Rock and what not into anime. It mess it up and makes it look like crap.
