Advanced Heaven

Well here is a site called Advanced Heaven, and sadly I find nothing that’s”advance” about it. I don’t know what you would call a site that’s looks like its been open for a few months, no content and what appears to be no downloads or other media other then a gallery. About half way into the review I thought to myself maybe it was a bad time to do it, but then again this is a very good example of what not to do when starting a site or when bring a site back from any kind of downtime.
The Webmaster/Staff: Not sure were to being about the webmaster. From the looks of things it looks like another one of those one guy doing everything sites, which myself did for years to even today. So I can relate to him on that level. What I can’t is to why the site is open with no information at all, a list of bad links and 404 errors and as he called it the “basics that are needed”. Not sure what basics he’s speaking of because what should be going on here is a coming soon site. I do hope this webmaster gets some work done as it seems he may be having some problems. If that’s the case maybe he should rethink the site or get some friends as staff to help him out on it.
Site Design: I have to say I have visited many anime web sites and this one ranks up there as one of the nice looking one. However is not perfect. The use of space on the site in come places seems to be wasted. For example, the menu, which I believe is way to wide for what’s there. With the short menu links, it would be better if it was shorter to allow more space for the main body which would reduce the amount of scroll time visitors would have to do. In which case is not a problem here being how the site has no content at all other then downloads, which call for a sign up which I found no need to do. Another part of the site which I thought they could work on would be the tables. Most sites don’t use them for layout anymore. For the most part it was the only way to do such layouts back in the day but with style sheets we can do that and more then we could ever do with tables. Plus tables are not met for design but to show data and should only be use to list large parts of data, not the layout.
Graphics: The graphic are very nice looking and with the style of the layout bring a very nice looking site. The problem is not with the design but with that there is no back up for it with other content. The layout looks very professionally done and overall I love it. But after about 5 minutes of looking at it I find that to be it and sadly is not what any anime fan would be looking for. Moving on now.
Design Code: Where do I believe with the madness. I wont lie here, as I can’t because the only way I can get it across to webmasters that they need to either learn html or need to find someone who does. First off they are using HTML 4.0, reason this is a bad idea for the most part is there are many little tricks coders use to use like 2 years ago in order to get effects and control in web browsers. But in those 2 years we now have style sheets and just about 90% support in current browsers. Looking at the code which runs 50 errors has many problems which I am not sure what is going on. I have to say placing the style tag after the body tag is something not even a n00b would do. Now I could go on and on about the code, but the fact is it looks like they are using a script using Invasion Power Board but I am not sure, I only pick up on it by looking at the code in the css code, it could be VBulletin too but not sure. In either case they need to work on the code because it sucks.
Navigation: It was very simple, overall for what the site has to offer it was very easy to get around to everything. It will be nice to see how this site works with information or other media in order to see how well the navigation is with deeper pages.
Content Quality: Not really much to say about it because I didn’t see much. The webmaster post that the content is not up, but he also post that the downloads are not up. Forgive me for being pushy here but if you have a web site, and your site is mainly downloads and you have none uploaded and not information to back it up then don’t open your site. Your doing yourself more harm putting up a site with no information or media just looks sloppy and makes you look unprofessional as a webmaster. Its like linking to sections with coming soon pages or pages that are only half done. If the page isn’t ready yet then don’t release it to the public. Its that simple, and most webmasters know this.
Overall the site is a level of coming soon as far as I see it. There is no content, no media, the board seems to be down as well as nothing more then the gallery. I have to believe the webmaster is trying his hardest here but I think he is hurting himself more by having his site open with nothing but a few news updates saying he is working on the site. A better job would be to post up a splash page saying coming back soon, work to get at least 80% of your content up and then open your site. I know some webmasters want a site quick but your not doing anything for the community but taking up space. I know that sounds mean, but as a anime fan what would you want a site full of rich media and information or one with nothing but coming soon and bad links? I think I made my point.
Pros:
- Nice looking design
- Good amount of images in gallery
Cons:
- Lack of content and downloads
- No title in the header
- Bad HTML code
- Broken links
